An early Christmas present

I wanted to post about this yesterday, but after spending my afternoon and evening standing around our office party completely sober I was pretty exhausted. Exhausted from trying to avoid being pawed by all the tipsy subcontractors, trying to maintain some semblance of fun spirit when in reality all I really wanted to do was just go home, and just talk, talk, talking to hundreds of people that came rolling through. I was beat.

The big news is that I got the best email yesterday afternoon. Remember my LEED nightmare project at my alma mater? The one where we got the audit back and I spent days trying to fix something I'd screwed up?

It's official. We got it. I don't know how they managed to squinch it through the process, and we finished with the bare minimum of points necessary to get certification, but we did it. I breathed a huge sigh of relief and then proceeded to do absolutely jack shit the rest of the day. I'd been worried about it for weeks - we hadn't heard a peep from the architect and that was really a can of worms that I didn't care to open.

So it's done. And now I can move on. We have 2 LEED projects in the hopper right now, neither of which are mine but I'm advising on both of them. It kind of bugs me that I'm not more involved, but with this Headquarters job we're working on it's pretty much all I can do at this point.

Oh, did I mention that EPOD got loaded at the Christmas party? It was pretty hysterical. I hope he made it home OK.

Today was the big baby shower for my niece-in-law. She got a lot of cool stuff, and I'm not bitter about the fact that they have way cooler stuff than when Monkey Man was a baby. Not bitter at all.

And then, tonight, we are going to dinner at my sister's house. We were supposed to do something with them tomorrow night but I'm probably going to bail out...we haven't finished our holiday shopping, we have a birthday party, and frankly - I'm beat. Tired. Bushed.

Oh, and the best news of all? Joey's company office party is scheduled for next Saturday. Know what that means? We don't have to visit my in-laws. We'll probably meet them halfway for lunch next weekend, but we don't have to go down there. Color me ecstatic!

So that's all. I'm sure I'll have plenty to talk about tomorrow between being trapped with my mom and sister without the benefit of alcohol, or fighting the mall crowds tomorrow in my desperate search to find my mom a gift that she won't despise. Now THAT would be a Christmas miracle.
