Something I hadn't quite counted on

Poor Monkey Man. He is the absolutely last of his friends and classmates to lose a tooth. As a matter of fact, he hasn't lost one yet.

It's been a subject of constant discussion lately. A few months ago, he would get downright depressed when he found out a friend had lost a tooth. Most of the Badasses were so concerned about it that they would email me on the down low to let me know if their kid had lost a tooth for fear of sending Monkey Man into a spiral of fully-toothed depression. We've both tried to tell him over and over - neither one of us lost any teeth until the first grade, so chances are he was going to be one of the late kids. And all you get is that look like "you suck".

And today, we have a loose tooth. Wiggle, wiggle, wiggle. He is totally obsessed with wiggling that tooth. Every five minutes, "Mom, is my tooth still loose?"

I have to admit, even for a hardass like me it's pretty exciting. A little sad, I mean the dude is growing up faster than I can even believe.

But in typical fashion, I am starting to obsess. Like what if he loses it at school and ends up not having a tooth to bring home? Okay, I know I can totally do the old "note to the tooth fairy" gig and it will be okay.

But what if he swallows it? See, that's the one I can't wrap my brain around. Like I told Joey a while ago, even my love has limits and I'm not going diving for teeth if you know what I mean.

Hopefully you're not eating right now. Sorry.

So anyhow, The Great Tooth Countdown is on....

ha! diving for teeth. that is the beauty of the tooth fairy's magic. She understands that stuff like that happens and then you are exempted from producing a tooth.

I didn't lose my first tooth until I was 10 and in 5th grade. I lost my last two baby teeth at 21 when my dentist pulled them, cut into my gums, attached braces on to my adult teeth and forced them down. The tooth fairy abandons you by 5th grade and is long gone by college. I really, really hope my kids get their dad's teeth.

I noticed that one of PDQs friends hasn't lost any teeth and she is halfway through first grade, another of her friends just lost the first one and they are all the advanced age of 7.

PDQ yanked out her first tooth and then when there was blood and it hurt she was much more reluctant to help the others!

I told the girls to keep wiggling and then finally when I felt it was loose enough for me to give a quick pull...I pulled the sucker - I like you had the exact same thought...what if she swallows it??? There are a lot of things I will do...digging in poo is not one of them...
