Dreams, or nightmares?

On Sunday night, I took Monkey Man to see The Spiderwick Chronicles. I hadn't read any of the books, but a few of the Badasses had gotten the idea to take the kids so like a lemming I just jumped right off of the cliff.

First of all, if you have a kid that is easily scared - DO NOT take them to this movie. I wouldn't say that the fairies or ogres are particularly new or different, but the intensity of the violence in the movie was pretty scary for some of the kids. Out of the three boys, Monkey Man was the only one not scared. There's a scene where the ogres attack a small girl, which was almost more than the boys could take.

Overall the movie was pretty good and not too long. Monkey Man has talked about it pretty constantly since we left the theater which is a good sign. He also has already decided that he doesn't want it on DVD so I'm not exactly sure what that means...did he enjoy it or not?

Watching the fairies reminded me of when I was four. I used to think that there were little fairies or creatures that lived behind the tiles in our hall bathroom. Behind those white tiles with gray speckles lived the most beautiful and fun little creatures that my mind could conjure up. I guess while most kids have an imaginary friend, I had a whole posse of friends to talk to and create the most wonderful stories about.

It seems like adulthood has kind of sucked those dreams out of me. Instead I get dreams about maybe not owing the IRS a kidney this year, or finding a good sale at DSW. And I don't even want to talk about the hot dream I had two weeks ago about one of the guys I work with. The guy is as pasty and malnourished looking as they come and has a moppet-style haircut. Apparently, though, these are just a clever disguise for the fact that he is apparently a sexual dynamo. In my dreams, that is. I could barely look at the guy for a week afterwards.

Tomorrow night we have dinner plans with Randy and his wife at Bonefish Grill. I was pretty excited about it until I finally found out that it was a different Randy and Randy's wife than I thought it was. Oops. It's all good though, the couple we're going with are pretty nice and I'm sure enough pomegranite martinis will make any awkwardness go away.

I think I'm addicted to Spongebob Squarepants. Save me.

So what does it say that when I read "fairies and ogres" I read fairies and orgies ?

Have fun at dinner. When are you coming this way again?
