Invasion of the turkeys

And I'm not talking about my in-laws, either. My motto for today: Survival is success. Quite fitting. So far we haven't had any major incidents but a few hiccups yesterday that will wait for another day for me to write about.

Yesterday, our local paper had a feature on why people shouldn't deep-fry turkeys. Something about how they might explode. Which makes me ever so thankful that I have dodged the turkey bullet yet again this year and it will be left to my sister to handle wrangling the beast into the oven.

My last pie is in the oven. I've done pumpkin, apple, and pecan cheesecake pies. I have one sweet potato casserole to finish putting together this afternoon after lunch. I kept it easy for breakfast - thank you, sweet gourmet grocery store, for making delicious coffee cakes that don't require me to do anything but make coffee.

My brother and family will be here around lunchtime - half are coming from Seattle, the other half from Atlanta. I am so excited that I could barely sleep last night. And of course, my parents are here - we haven't seen them since October.

Last year, my dad was still in rehab. Monkey Man had just had surgery 3 weeks prior. It wasn't a great time last Fall. This year is so much better. Despite all the requisite in-law drama, it's going to be a great weekend.

Happy Thanksgiving, y'all. From my house to yours, I hope you have a day filled with fun and laughter.

******

Most of all, today, I am thankful for my life and the people in it. I am so lucky.

Happy Thanksgiving! I made chocolate pie from the recipe you provided two-three years ago. W is salivating over it already. And I tripled the meringue - 6 egg whites. It looks beautiful!

We're at the ranch and unfortunately it looks like deep frying the turkey is about our only option - the travel trailer oven is way too small. I'm a fried turkey virgin and just a little curious.

Good luck with everything today and Happy Thanksgiving!
