This morning, at the Almighty Temple of the Waffle, we had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. Apparently there were a lot more hungry athiests than us out there. (Just kidding - we're not athiests, although we both have a certain distaste for the politics of organized religion. And a certain taste for waffles and an extra side of bacon. Ahem.)
I was busy freak-watching the rest of the clientele and noticed that Joey and Monkey Man were seriously studying the jukebox. Have you ever checked out the titles of the songs on the Waffle House jukebox? At least 20 songs on there are specifically about Waffle House. Classics like "I Saw Elvis at the Waffle House," "Saucemaster," and "Make Mine with Cheese." Next thing I knew, Joey was shoveling quarters in and had picked five songs out. He has a pretty diverse musical taste so you never know exactly what he's going to pick.
The first song? "God Bless the USA" by Lee Greenwood. Apparently, Monkey Man picked this one out because it had an American flag on the little tag. Pretty cheesy, but not too painful.
The second song was "Long Time Gone" by the Dixie Chicks. Okay, we were both big Chicks fans until Natalie had to go and open her mouth and get all political. Hey, I'm okay with people having opinions, it's when they try and shove them down my throat that I get a little pissy. But their music is good, so I'm down with that.
The third was it. "Strokin" by Clarence Carter. And if you haven't heard this song, it's about sex. "Stroke it to the east, stroke it to the west, stroke it to the one that I love the best...."
"My God, Joey - did you have to pick 'Strokin' to play at 9 AM on a Sunday morning in a Waffle House in the freaking Bible Belt?"
"Hey, I love that song - and I haven't heard it forever."
"Geez, could you have picked anything worse?"
"How about AC/DC's 'Highway to Hell'?"
Never mind. Sorry I asked.

SO was that the next one in the queue? (AC/DC)
Nope. No AC/DC on there.
Grateful Dead - Truckin'.
And then Toby Keith's "I Love this Bar".
Classy people, we are.
ROFL, I bet no one else in the place blinked an eye, imagine if the faithful hadn't been at church!
That's what we like about you, class all the way!
That's quite the diverse taste in music! LOL! Speaking of the Chicks, I like them too but actually was annoyed last night by their lack of poise in accepting their awards. The music industry is extending an olive branch ladies - don't quote the Simpsons! ;)
(Little side rant there. Sorry.) :)
