About the heart

Happy Valentine's Day, y'all.

Want to know how my day was?

Well, let's start off with this morning, when I had to ask Monkey Man not once, not twice, but FIVE times to put his damn shoes on. And as he walked out the door, he refused to give me a kiss goodbye and told me I was a mean mommy. Hey, kid, that's how I roll. Have a great freaking day.

But I shook it off. I went on to work with high hopes for a pretty quiet day.

Um, wrong. Let's just say that it's a good thing that they don't allow us to keep firearms or liquor in our offices, or I would've used both today. Handily.

But you know, it's all good. I actually had a pretty good day, and the Monkey Man was delighted to see me when I picked him up this afternoon. We just got home from dinner at the new Japanese steakhouse and I have a box of chocolates and some nice cards from my boys.

I have a really sweet, romantic husband. I don't talk about it very much because it embarrasses him to no end to hear me gushing about him. He will do things like go to my favorite florist and hand-pick roses (any color but red, thank you very much) to send to me. He gives me cards just because. He really does a lot of nice things for me.

A few years ago - well, maybe it's been longer than that now that I think about it - I declared a stop to Valentine's Day flowers. I swear, we had three years in a row where the flower deliveries turned into a total disaster. One year, they came on time and were completely dead. One year, they didn't show up at all. And one year, they showed up three days later and were half-dead. I mean really, the florists around here totally gouge people and for what...dead flowers? Honestly, I felt so bad for Joey that it was just better off to let the poor guy off the hook. Although I do love me some roses. Any color but red.

So anyhow, I hope you've had a great day. We're watching Animal Planet and Monkey Man is laughing and laughing. I guess he's not mad anymore.

I save the flowers for our anniversary which is 5 days later :) Glad MM is not mad anymore. I think red roses are getting a bad rep from the ladies, not sure why.
