My mother always used to tell me that if I didn't have anything nice to say, not to say anything at all.
She has a good point. And I almost didn't post today. Today was kind of one of those blah days. But a few good things did happen...
I got to escape for a few blissful hours today to do a little browsing at the mall, walk in the sunshine, and then have a great lunch with my sister. Tomorrow's her birthday so I gave her a little gift and a card. We also had margaritas and if I hadn't had to drive home I would've had some sangria too. Yum. And you know, she gives the best hugs ever - except for Monkey Man hugs.
Talked to my parents. Yeah, Nebraska lost today but Dad was still in a good mood anyway. He's back out of the wheelchair again and running laps to the mailbox on his walker. Mom had been busy all day making the funeral arrangements for my cousin and she sounded pretty relieved that the arrangements fell into place easily. The funeral is tomorrow, and if I wasn't so exhausted I would definitely go since there are so few people in the family that will attend.
This afternoon, A&E had a marathon of "Flip this House" that I became engrossed in. And then got some crazy ideas about flipping houses...which isn't really feasible in this housing market and with the limited amount of time that we have...but hey, I can always dream, right?
Tonight I ran out to get some Chinese food for Monkey Man and ran into his best friend's parents at the restaurant - they had no idea what has been going on and they offered to have him over for a few hours tomorrow so the boys can play and I can get a break. I felt like hugging them. Even if things don't work out for tomorrow, the gesture means a lot.
Monkey Man is doing so much better today. For example, tonight he ate an entire plate of chicken and broccoli with rice and then ate Oreos for dessert. The look of astonishment and relief on my face must've been obvious because he said, "I'm so glad you are happy Mommy!" Happy isn't the word at this point - ecstatic is more like it.
So what is my wild ass doing home on a Saturday night? Well, my cold is worse. We had thought about going to a sportsbar since The Game isn't on regular cable, but I figured that my poor lungs don't need a bunch of smoke adding to my problems, so I shooed Joey out the door and hunkered down with some egg drop soup, Hunan beef, and one of my infamous No Fun Hot Chocolates for the night. With a side of Mucinex and my last pill from the Z-pack.
I've been doing a little surfing on the internet, catching up on blogs, a little shopping...I did find out that my favorite clothing company is discontinuing the main staple of my wardrobe (these fab pants that I adore) so I scooped up 6 pairs in various colors for $10 each. Score! Later I'll be plowing through yet another book (A Prayer for Owen Meany) so I can start on the new Anne Tyler book that my friend Robin loaned me.
So are you bored stiff yet?
I'm enjoying a perfectly boring night here at home. No complaints from me. It's blissfully quiet, knock on wood.
I so needed this.
